Conference Proceeding Book

All conference presentations will be published in an online Book of Proceedings with an ISBN. A copy of the publication will be made available on the Equally Well website along with Proceedings from previous national events.

Paper Formats

As a part of submitting your abstract all presenters were asked to submit a paper to the conference proceedings.

All papers submitted will be edited and proofed (typos, grammar and syntax etc. – no changes to the meaning/content will be made), we do however ask, that the submitted version is carefully proof-read prior to submission. If you wish, you may request your paper to be peer-reviewed.

Following are the four formats you may choose from to submit your paper:

    • dot point summary, or
    • short paper, 500-1,000 words, or
    • Full paper, 3,000 words (not peer reviewed)
    • Full paper, 3,000 words (peer reviewed)

Paper requirements

    • be no longer than 500-1,000 words for a short paper
    • be no longer than 3,000 words for a full paper
    • be clearly expressed, using correct grammar and spelling
    • show reference to literature, including up-to-date materials, and should reference the material, using the Vancouver system of referencing
    • Lists should be set as bullets, unless there is a particular reason for them to be numbered
    • Full stops are not generally used for abbreviations (eg, ie, Mr, Dr, etc)
    • Use bold (not underlining) if you need to emphasise words.

Dot point and short paper format

Following is the suggested format and headings for both the dot point summary and short paper:

    • Introduction: Background and context
    • Method: Project description/actions
    • Results: Outcomes/key points
    • Discussion: Key implications, lessons going forward, recommendations

Full paper format

In submitting your full written paper you may request it be peer reviewed (refer below for more information).

Your paper must be original (ie, not published elsewhere) and should develop the topics and/or methods outlined in the abstract. Authors are strongly encouraged to include at least one policy/action recommendation as part of their paper. For instance, this might draw out the implications of the work for practical changes to health services.

Papers should:

      • be clearly expressed, using correct grammar and spelling
      • show evidence of a literature search, including up-to-date materials, and should reference the material, preferably using the Vancouver system of referencing
      • be analytical and descriptive (eg, of a program undertaken, or a service developed)
      • refer to the theoretical context or contextual framework in which the study was undertaken, and report on the work in the context of that framework
      • show that the evidence related to the issue discussed has been considered
      • present a coherent discussion of a topic that does not fracture into a number of issues thus clouding the intent of the paper
      • demonstrate an emphasis on, and/or a relevance to, current issues in physical health for people living with mental illness in Australia

Peer-Reviewed Papers

Where authors have asked for their papers to be peer reviewed, two independent experts from the content area will review the paper. The review process is ‘blind’: details of the author(s) and their affiliation(s) will not be revealed to the reviewers. To allow for blind reviewing, the author name(s) and affiliation(s) should not appear in the paper or the Word document filename.

When producing your final paper, you may wish to revise your original abstract.

Please include this at the top of your paper.

All ‘peer-reviewed’ papers will be indicated as such in the published Book of Proceedings to assist obtaining academic points.
