Introduction

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) funded a 3 year project – “Consumers and carers as Physical Health Care Navigators in rural Australia: experiences of care and a randomised efficacy trial. Lived experience expertise has been crucial to the development of this project and the trial.

This poster illustrates how lived experience leadership has been embedded throughout – from the project conceptualisation, to research design and completion, development of a model of care, and providing lived experience guidance in the implementation (trial) phase. Through a shared leadership model, the lived experience leadership team has ensured that diverse lived experience voices have been elevated and prioritised by the academic researchers in the different project stages – providing a practical example of academia working in collaboration with lived experience.

Discussion

The model of shared leadership through each stage of the project has ensured lived experience perspectives and expertise have been woven through the project, with lived experience leaders working closely with researchers to produce vital elements of the project. This poster will outline how this has been implemented, with a particular focus on the challenges and successes in the project so far.
