Shaping the future of physical health equity: meet our Equally Well Emerging Leaders

Equally Well Australia is proud to launch the Emerging Leaders Program, a new initiative designed to support and showcase the next generation of leaders working to improve the physical health of people living with mental health conditions.

The program brings together six emerging leaders from across Australia who are making important contributions through research, clinical practice, advocacy, and lived experience leadership. As Equally Well Emerging Leader Ambassadors, they will help expand awareness of Equally Well and promote the importance of physical health equity within their professional and community networks.

People living with mental health conditions continue to experience poorer physical health outcomes and shorter life expectancy than the  rest of the population. Addressing these inequities requires strong leadership, fresh perspectives, and collaboration across sectors. The Emerging Leaders Program aims to foster these qualities by supporting future leaders who are committed to driving meaningful change.

Equally Well National Director Prof Russell Roberts said the program reflects Equally Well’s commitment to investing in future leaders who will help drive long-term change.

“Improving physical health outcomes for people living with mental health conditions requires sustained leadership and collaboration across the health and community sectors. Our Emerging Leaders Ambassadors bring expertise, energy, and new perspectives that will help strengthen the Equally Well movement and inspire action within their own networks and communities.”

Throughout the program,  emerging leaders will engage with researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, service providers, and lived experience advocates to champion the principles of Equally Well and build greater awareness of physical health equity.
